In the 1990’s, together with my partner, we set up a company producing mainly handwoven and handknotted rugs, so I became familiar with these textiles but never designed any for a long time.It was when designing rugs for my 'Gardens' exhibition at the Fortuny Museum in Venice some years ago that I discovered what an extraordinary medium it is for a painter, a large canvas which can have a three dimensional, sculptural quality.
